Changes to veteran property tax exemptions
Illinois has recently made changes to the Standard Homestead Exemption for Veterans with Disabilities. Review the information below for the changes, and use the forms that apply to your situation.

Use this form if this is your first time applying for the Disabled Veteran Homestead Exemption. If you live outside of Will County, visit your county assessor's website for their application and submission details.
Illinois PTAX-342 (PDF)Annual renewal
Veterans with a service-connected disability rating of less than 100% permanent and total must submit the PTAX-342-R form along with their benefit verification letter to the county assessor's office each year.
Illinois PTAX-342-R (PDF)Benefit verification letter
Your benefit verification letter can be downloaded from the VA at any time, and is required with the renewal form.
